What is the chief end of man?
Q. 1. What is the chief end of man?
A. Man’s chief end is to glorify God, and to enjoy Him forever.
So many things are fighting to take away joy.
Stressful living conditions. Corrupt government. Pollution. Poverty. Insert stressor.
The world constantly strives to strip away our worth and identity. A disabled child has less rights than animals. Your worth is constantly measured by your ability and possessions.
Sometimes life feels meaningless and that we’re just going through the motions.
Have you ever wondered, what’s the purpose of it all? Why even bother fighting?
A few weeks ago, Hugh started a prayer meeting to just worship God. Not to ask anything but just praise His characters and attributes. It had been an eye opening challenge for me to be a part of this.
In a world where we are always looking for something new, rushing for the next thing, busy with so many distractions, it’s actually helpful to stop and think of those things that are certain and never changing - God.
He is the One who allows rain to fall on the godly and the ungodly. He is the One who gives life to all whether they deserved it or not. He is the one who control the world to turn on the right axis at the right perfect time. He controls the whole universe, stars, moon and planets. He doesn’t worry or rush because He doesn’t need to.
When I was doing my chaplaincy training at Allowah Children’s Hospital, sometimes I wondered if any of the children understood the songs, stories and prayer that I led for them. Now looking back, I think they do. What I learnt from serving the most severely disabled is that : yes, even when we can’t sing with our mouth or show through our movements, our soul can still glorify and enjoy God.
God invites everyone, to enjoy and glorify Him forever. The unborn, the disabled, the dementia patients, the severely sick: they are proof that even in worldly lack, God is still worth it all. He is still the most precious. We can still have joy! What an amazing, mind blowing, cool truth to hold on to!
